Met up with a crew of 4 to head offshore off Sanibel to do some fishing. To sum it up, It was spectacular. From the near glass like water conditions, to the cool weather, down to the excellent bite we had all day.
The group fared well on Lane Snapper, Porgies, lots and lots of red grouper throwback size fish as well as 2 Red Grouper that joined them for dinner. The highlight fish of the day was a beautiful 31” Gag Grouper that hit like a freight train. It did everything it could to get back to its hole, but Neil was having no part of that! Congrats on a great fish! I look forward to seeing you and the guys again next year. Tight Lines! Headed out from Redfish Pass looking for a good grouper bite. First drop was in 75 ft of water. TONS of short red grouper to 19.75 of an inch. Mixed in were some quality lane snapper and jolthead porgies. John hooks into a good one and first grouper a tad over 26” goes in the box. Kept catching 18-19” inch fish. Pushed out to 85 ft of water. Story of the day continued with good vermillion and lane snapper, and lots of short red grouper. After a couple missed connections, another 22” RG was added to the fish box.
Pushed out a little further to 90 ft, where the saga of lanes and vermillion, along with a metric ton of short red grouper. We did manage 2 more legal RGs before calling it a day as the winds and seas began churning with the approaching cold front. I think all in all, we boated over 100 grouper, along with all the snapper, porgies and misc fish. Was a beautiful day to be out on the water. Look forward to having you guys back out for some more action. |
