GROUPER TROOPERS!

Headed out with a 4 man crew  to look for some grouper meat.  We pushed off the dock a little after 5AM making our way downriver from the cape coral yacht club and out thru redfish pass.  We witnessed a beautiful sunrise as we cruised towards the fishing grounds thru 2-3 ft seas.  Our first stop showed good marks on the sounder. We dropped down the small spinners with small baits and immediately were pulling up lane snapper.  One by one the anglers swapped out for the bigger rods and bigger baits, and it became a methodical pick of keeper grouper.  We managed 6 keepers over the coarse of the drifts before moving on to another area.  One short drift resulted in the two biggest grouper of the day, the biggest just shy of 30".  We moved on to see if we could find some alternative species to bend a rod.  We tryed for amberjacks, but they just werent in the eating mood with the sun high in the air.  We did get a 10-15 lb barracuda to join the party, which was quickly released after being landed. We moved back in a little shallower and played with the snapper a bit before deciding to head on home.  Lots of smiles and good times were had, and the boys went home with lots of meat for several meals.
